The story of how Woven Spirits was inspired:
When my children were elementary school ages, they came home excited to tell me that a man was coming to school the next day with a Golden Eagle. Of course I had to go! After the presentation, I was invited to watch the eagle's rehabilitation work the following day in the Dona Ana Mountains. Her handler was teaching her to hunt using his knowledge of Falconry techniques. He had a portion of a rabbit and showed her the game. She was on the ground and took flight at soon as she saw it. Soaring high in a spiral above us, I was positioned with my camera pointed up as the bird began her stoop. Dropping like a rock and screaming, she went straight for the rabbit and I didn't get the picture. I was in such awe that all I could do was watch and take it all in. She grabbed the rabbit and went to a high rock to enjoy her meal. Believe me, I remember it clearly to this day as I hear her piercing scream in that dramatic dive. I took many photos that day as the sunset lit her beautiful golden feathers. Woven Spirits is one of my favorites paintings inspired from that remarkable day.
