Giclee Prints

.   Like offset lithographs, Giclée prints start with an original painting. A transparency of the original is scanned into a computer, where it can be color corrected, stored digitally and printed out as needed. Using pigment based inks, a series of tiny nozzles spray the canvas with a fine spray.  Because there are no line screens involved, Giclée prints have a higher resolution than offset lithographs, (about 1800 dots per inch) In offset lithographs each dot of color is encircled by white space, like in newspaper printing. In the Giclée process, however, inks are sprayed as droplets rather than dots; each droplet bleeds into the canvas creating a more continuous tone. The Giclée prints' inks are a pigment based ink, verses an ink which uses dyes, and have been tested for longevity and outlast most lithograph inks being used. The Pigment particles are larger then that of dye particles, and are hold color longer. The prints have shown to last 85-100 years without noticeable fading, assuming certain care factors are followed, allowing archival museum-quality prints.

Roadrunners mate for life and are both involved in the raising of their babies.  Both take turns either hunting for food of sitting on the nest.  Since the male and female look alike, there is no clear way to tell who is on the nest and who is hunting.  The nests appear to be randomly built but I've watched them build and they are quite particular about each stick and where it goes.  They will even slam the twigs on the ground to break them into exactly the right size.
Some human parents could learn from these birds in Parenting 101.

The Roadrunner lives near our house in Las Cruces, NM.   She and her mate hunt every day for their babies that are in a nest they made in an Arizona cypress tree.  The Whiptail lizard with its bright blue tail is common to our area.  The lizard conforms to the ridges of a basket, hoping to blend and hide from the sharp-eyed and skilled hunter.

In Taz's Garden

I imagined the two Roadrunners in Taz’s beautiful garden.  Everywhere I turned there were rare cacti, cow and buffalo skulls and other interesting southwestern objects.  I arranged the cow skull painting a roadrunner on top of it.
The second roadrunner was on a Matate’ stone, filled with rain water caught by a storm. What a peaceful setting.

These two roadrunners spent the spring and summer drinking from our dogs' water dish and dashing in and out of the yard, driving them nuts! It was easy to get good photos as they came up to my backdoor and were curious about what was inside.
I think the lizard might get away. What do you think?
